Mercedes Schlapp doesn't have an easy gig as the White House strategic communications adviser. The White House's strategic communications advisor Mercedes Schlapp has to face a variety of challenges. These include a President who is also his own director of communication and a variety of legal battles that may disrupt the communications strategy. Yet, through all of it Schlapp has stayed determined to focus on her task in hand and has worked closely with the White House's political and legislative affairs departments and policy shops as as the broader communications operation for policy-related rollouts. Her focus so far has been on matters such as the safety of schools, opioids, infrastructure and trade. She doesn't interact with reporters very much in her present job. The attention she attracted in March came when her name appeared as one of the contenders for the job of replacing Hope Hicks. Mercedes Schlapp does not have an easy job as White House strategic communication adviser. It is not easy for Mercedes Schlapp to be the White House's communications strategic adviser. She is faced with many challenges, such being a president who acts as his director of communications. Schlapp is, however, maintained her focus on her mission. She is in close contact in conjunction with White House political affairs and committees on legislation and policy shops as well as with the overall communications operation in order to ensure that the policies are implemented. Her focus to date is on issues like school safety, the opioid epidemic, trade, infrastructure as well as other topics. As of now, Schlapp does not deal too much with journalists. In March, she got some attention after her name came up as a potential candidate to succeed Hope Hicks in the role of communications director. The battle has been brutal. Schlapp was a ally of Tony Sayegh who was also an aspirant. They began sparring in media. Schlapp confronted Sayegh following The Washington Examiner printed a bad article about the former president.
